DecisionBase Software Has Received Approval of the First U.S. Patent for a Comprehensive Electronic Clinical Record (EHR) for Dentistry
Big news in the electronic management of patient records. Paper charts are headed for the recycling bin of history and we expect more EHR solutions to enter the market this year. The HITECH Act of 2009 mandates that healthcare providers use EMR/EHR by 2014 which gives providers a couple of years to make the transition.
From the article:
Over 50% of physicians in private practice have converted to the use of EMR/EHRs according to a NCHS National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey. The HITECH Act of 2009 requires all healthcare providers to use EMR/EHRs by 2014. This and the younger generation of doctors who have grown up with computers, smart phones, tablets and social networking will drive this conversion to digital information management in dentistry.

What Are Your Favorite Instruments?
RDHmag.com has a fun article all about instruments. Like anything else we find our favorite tools and stick with them. The plumber has his wrench, carpenters have the nailgun, chefs have the spatula and hygienists have their favorite instrument. Specifically, the article highlights the use of ultrasonics:
In my other role as a clinical coach for Jameson Management, as well as through teaching hands-on courses through my own company, ultraconcepts, I discovered many students were not using ultrasonics on all patients. They felt that, if the patient was “easy,” there was no need to pick it up. Or their technique involved using the power scaler for about four minutes throughout the whole mouth, then returning to redo the whole mouth with hand instruments. In reality, I had discovered that ultrasonics are even better for easy patients than some of my perio patients.
